Muscular Dystrophy Fundraiser

One of the things I love best about country living is how hardship brings people together. With simple gatherings, the tough times become super fun — because of the people involved. Our local, annual muscular dystrophy fundraiser is the perfect example.

There is a child in our community who is wheelchair bound, but he was fortunate to be born into one of the most incredible families I have ever met. Each year they ask locals for donations for their fundraiser, and you wouldn’t believe the outpouring of donations that show up on the tables.

Everyone pays for parking then purchases tickets to put into bags in front of donated items they wish to win. At the end of the day, there is a ticket drawing from each bag.

Throughout the day there are other prizes, free games for the kids, face painting, jump houses, and a band playing. You can get food and drinks, and all the proceeds help the cause. It’s a wonderful arena for connecting with friends you haven’t seen over the winter.

Living with a loved one who has Muscular Dystrophy is a tough row to hoe, but this family and our community are making the most of it–taking the hard reality and turning it to good. What an amazing place I live in.
