Balance Rock

Things are starting to get better in my world. I’m done whinging 🙂 My colleague and friend is also on sabbatical, and he came to visit us in Massachusetts.

We had several great days of cooking, movies, yakking, and hiking. My daughter-in-law, Lauren, had told me about https://www.alltrails.com/ a few years ago so we opened the app to hunt for local trails. Looking for easier paths, we found the Balance Rock Loop Trail — a simple three-mile trail with only about 350 feet of elevation. It was so perfect being in the woods.

Chris, Chrissie, and Sam ready to hike.
The water looked so fresh Chris thought we could drink it. But we won’t try unless desperate.
This is how the park got its name. Look on the right. That rock is balancing and not hitting the ground. Amazing. It’s been that way for a seriously long time.

Today

Sam is gone, but Chris and I went back to explore more trails at Balance Rock.

We saw some silly tree markings I really enjoyed.

How can one not relax in an atmosphere like this?

Hiking is a bit like life: The journey only requires you to put one foot in front of the other…again and again and again. And if you allow yourself the opportunity to be present throughout the entirety of the trek, you will witness beauty every step of the way, not just at the summit.

  1. Know what? I think I could actually like hiking… at least in lovely areas like this one, and the places your aunt frequents! That rock is just incredible!! Love the tree markings, so fun!
