Lucid Dreamers

In today’s news I came across a post about lucid dreamers. There were two items that surprised me most in the article. The first was a comment:

About 23% of people have a lucid dream once a month or more, according to a 2016 research paper published in the journal Consciousness and Cognition.

That really surprised me. I would have thought the stat was much higher.

And the other part that surprised me was that this was even news. I thought most people regularly had lucid dreams, and had them every night.

CJ got his name from my sleep-talking. Chris long ago learned that if he talks to me while I sleep-talk, it is a regular conversation.

One night while I was pregnant all those years ago, I said, “Ooooohhhh.”

He asked what I was ooohhhing, and I said, “Our beautiful baby boy, Calvin James.”

A few weeks later we found out our child was a boy, and none of the names we thought of were sitting well with us. Our neighbor heard our story and commented on the child being CJ, which we liked (we didn’t like the name Calvin so much at first. Now we do 🙂 ). So there that was.

Either that, or Chris pulled one over on me. I have to trust him on that conversation. Since I was sleeping and have no recollection.

What I do know is that our son, Hudi, also inherited the lucid dream thing, along with my nocturnal habit of sleepwalking. While he was in college, he learned to sleep with full pajamas with his room key in his pocket after a couple embarrassing incidents where he wandered out of his rooms and woke up to find himself locked out.

How embarrassing to be a college freshman, knocking in an RAs door in the middle of the night for a spare key after being locked out. I asked him if I could share this on the blog, and he wrote:

Lol, you absolutely can! However embarrassing to be in the hall in my skivvies — it’s a funny story.

Do any of you have any funny/interesting sleep stories? Are you a lucid dreamer? Do you find the article I am commenting on interesting? Surprising? Illuminating? I’d love to know…

I adore that WordPress baby!!

I do not have lucid dreams, but I enjoyed reading about yours. I remembered you said you dreamed CJ’s name, but I didn’t recall it was during an interactive dream state. Fantastic!
