Scares on the Slope (13 Nights of Terror)

For six years now, we have heard the screams when our window is open weekend October nights. During 13 Nights at Jiminy the mountain turns into a terror attraction for Halloween enthusiasts. Every year I swear I’m going to do it. Every year I wuss out. This year my friend had an extra ticket so I finished work and ran to join her family before I had time to talk myself out of it.

The walk over to the event was incredible. It was like God set a stage in nature for celebrating all things autumnal.

We had dinner then headed over to the haunting as darkness ascended.

Scary? Wellll… yeah, I discovered the screams we hear from our window are completely bonafide. 😀

My almost-70-year old friend and I were clinging to each other as we ran from the haunts, screeching like babies. We were told the actors will never touch us, and they didn’t, but they came awfully close with all their scary makeup. And they were very good actors.

Diane had done this in the past and knew that we’d get some good scares in the ticket office building before we took the dark lift ride to the top where we were in for another round of terror.

The people coming down on the lift as we were going up were finally getting a moment’s peace before Terror Round 3 (in the locker rooms). Diane randomly screamed at them so they wouldn’t get too relaxed. It was hysterical watching them jump and shriek back. She is so bad. I definitely giggled.

The moon was huge (one day past full), and we got a great view of the stars from the lift. All-in-all the experience took about an hour (not counting dinner).

We were not allowed to take pictures or video during the event, but if you want to see some pics from their advertisements, you can check out the Instagram feed for October.

The activity is not recommended for people under the age of ten, but they do have some clowns walking around. They were not trying to scare anyone and we family-friendly with a mild bit of spook. I appreciated that as I was dining with someone under ten. That was the only picture I got that gave a glimpse of the evening.

While I was scared to walk around corners for about a week after, I have to admit I loved it. Chris was busy that night, but he is open to joining us next year. I can’t wait.

The next night we had another Halloween-inspired evening with friends. That was a lot tamer. I’ll publish that tomorrow.

We haven’t done a lot of these events since the kids have moved out. It’s fun doing enjoying the season fun again.
