This is a fun thing. My aunt is an amazing writer and a gift to the blogosphere. Before that she typed out communications and her takes on daily life for the entertainment of our family. She is truly a gifted person. My uncle saved her old letters, and now she is putting them on her blog.
She wrote about my visit to her family when they were in England on https://amehrling.com/page/3/. I was nine years old.
Last week I was in our New York place and found my journal from that summer. My mom made me write it as we traveled Europe. I resented it at the time, but now I think it’s fun — so yay, Mom! You win 😉
Here are my journal entries of the England part of the trip:
I hope you appreciate the phenomenal artist I am and was at the age of nine. haha. Definite sarcasm there…
If you read my aunt’s blog (which you should if you appreciate great writing about everyday life), you will note that she often touts grandson Nate’s cooking prowess. Now you know where it came from. It’s her genes. Proof there from the 1980s in a journal entry touting the WONDERFUL dinner 🙂

I love this! Kids always remember raspberry milkshakes! I had one of these for the out west trip, I’m going to find it😄
I follow your aunt so I know first hand. I always wonder she has so much to write about when I’m having droughts in my posts. Lol
She is an inspiration. I love her so much.
Oh, my goodness! Thank you, Chrissie. I was thrilled to read your journal. I noticed both of us wrote about your helping Mr. Clewes, the gardener. This journal also shows you as a budding writer. It was excellent for a nine-year-old. Who could have dreamed 40 years ago that both of us would write about the same few days and publish them in blogs? I’m tickled pink. You are so very special to me.
I thought it was really fun when I found that. You are very special to me, too 🙂
Love it, Chrissie! I’m impressed by your then-budding writing talent – and your prowess at cursive writing! I don’t think too many 9-year-olds would be able to write so legibly in cursive. Spelling is 99.9% fabulous, too! Good genes from Auntie Anne? Could be, eh?! 😁
Thank you 🙂 and you could be right. Aunt Anne has been a great influence in my life. She lived right next-door to me, and that was one of my favorite places to visit.
Nice, lucky you! 😊
