Life has been very hectic recently, so it was very nice to take a few hours and relax with friends. Have you heard of the game Hues and Cues? We were very curious about how it would work. Especially since some of us tend to see colors differently from others.
To play, you pick a card, and the card has four colors on it. You choose one that you want to use and describe it to everyone else in one word. They put a token on the color of the game board. You want them to choose your color so it’s up to you to give good clues. Next, you describe the color in two words. They place their other token on the color that they think is correct. Visual instructions are in this YouTube video.
I love the faces the others made both while deciding on words and also when choosing where to place the piece:

Describing a color without actually saying a color is trickier than one might think. For example, I was dealing with a light yellow color and gave the clue of “duckling.” The other players teased me saying ducklings can come in all different colors.
Later, I did a Google search and showed them that all the image results for ducklings were yellow 🙂 The ones with other colors are older ducklings apparently. And I do know a few are black, but mostly they are yellow, I think.

I still have some some confusion on which color is a result of Chris’s clues of “lips” and “under fingernails.”
Some shade of pink I guess.
The game is really fun, imho. But you don’t have to actually have the board to play. Just think of a color or pick one from a color wheel online and try to find words to describe it to a friend.
It’s a great way to expand one’s vocabulary. Similar to a memory I have of trying to explain what creamed corn is like to someone who has never experienced it. Fun, eh?
